Anne Hathaway stars as the iconic Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. However, this time Catwoman is not a victim of life’s circumstances. According to Hathaway, Nolan’s Catwoman is a strong female who follows her own code which is shaped by her worldview. Her experiences are a big influence on the way she behaves and interacts with the other people in Gotham.
Even the Catwoman outfit has a new spin on it. The iconic feline ears actually serve a purpose when they flip down and convert into high tech goggles, and Selina’s steel stilettos double up as a weapon.
The role is a sharp contrast to some of Anne Hathaway’s previous parts in The Princess Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada. Unlike the klutzy beginnings those characters shared, Selina Kyle is all style, grace, and confidence. Hathaway stated that this was the most physically demanding set she has ever worked on and that she followed a strict diet regimen to stay lean and strong.
Rumors are circulating of a possible spin-off Catwoman movie, but no confirmations yet. In the meantime, you can see Anne Hathaway bring Catwoman to life in Dark Knight and hear her talk about the role in the interview below!
