Jimmy Choo is a fashion designer who is renowned for the craftsmanship of his shoes. Choo was born in Malaysia to a shoe-making family of Chinese heritage. He joined the family business at a young age and designed his first pair of shoes when he was only 12 years old.
While visiting relatives in London, he came to hear of Cordwainers’ Technical College, a school that specialized in the art of shoe-making. Choo decided to settle down in London and worked his way through school. In 1984, he sold his first shoe designs under the name Lucky Shoes.
A couple of years later, Choo started his own business and started designing custom shoes under his own name. His keen fashion sense and style eventually caught the eye of Diana, Princess of Wales and she became one of his clients. This brought a lot of attention to the brand and in 1988 Vogue introduced Jimmy Choo shoes in an 8 page feature. In 1996, Choo paired up with Tamara Mellon, British Vogue’s magazine accessories editor, and her family provided Choo with the start-up money to go international.
Jimmy Choo shoes quickly gained prominence and a strong following in spite of the expensive price tag. Today, Jimmy Choo is an iconic luxury brand that is sought after by all women including celebs. Check out some the beautiful shoes from the 2012 collection below!
