BUXOM: Dolly’s Wild Side Eyeshadow Palette

buxom dolly palette case

Spring is all about soft pastel colors, so it’s a good time to put away your deeper autumn shades and transition to fresher, lighter hues. I noticed the Buxom: Dolly’s Wild Side eyeshadow palette a while back, but being a girl who loves her neutrals, I wasn’t sure if I’d use the mauve/pink tones enough to justify getting it. However, the colors in the palette are so pretty that when I saw it again later, I couldn’t resist and decided to try out something new. This palette is available at Ulta and retails for $40.

What I Like

Packaging: I love the cute, colorful print on the case. The size of the palette is really convenient to take along or travel with, especially when you don’t feel like hauling one of your larger eyeshadow palettes with you. Another nice feature of this palette is that it’s refillable with Buxom’s eyeshadow singles so you can replace individual colors as you use them up or customize the palette with other shades you like.

Colors: These soft, neutral and mauve/pink shades are beautiful and perfect for spring. The colors are very wearable, even for daytime and they really brighten your eyes. I like that the palette still includes some neutral shades and that the shadows come in different finishes (matte, shimmer and metallic).

The colors included in this palette are described as:

silk sheets (chai colored luster)

champagne buzz (shimmering pearl)

lingerie lover (matte mauve)

mink magnet (metallic bronze)

spoiled sexy (matte deep mauve)

wild nights (shimmering sugar plum)

Application/Performance: Overall, the shadows have a smooth, creamy texture and are easy to apply. They stay in place, the colors complement each other nicely and blend well.

What Could Be Better

Colors: Although I love the colors in this palette, and it’s nice that they can transition from day to night, it would have been nice if one of the mauve shades was a little darker when applied. I found the shades in this palette to be on the lighter side when applied, so depending on the look you’re going for, this may or may not work for you. The colors all apply and blend well, but I felt that the silk sheets shade wasn’t as creamy as the others and took a little more work to build up.

Price: At $40, the palette is on the pricier side for 6 eyeshadows.

Conclusion

Buxom: Dolly’s Wild Side is a beautiful eyeshadow palette. The mauve/pink tones are easy to transition from day to night and are a fresh spin on the usual neutral shades most of us already have. The eyeshadows have a smooth texture, come in a nice variety of finishes and blend well. This is the kind of palette you can grab on the go and easily create a look  for work or an evening out. The compact size, built in mirror and option to refill individual eyeshadows is really convenient. If you’re bored of the usual browns and taupes, and are looking to try something fresh for spring, I highly recommend this palette. I hope you found this review helpful. Thanks for stopping by!
