BUXOM: Va-Va PLUMP Shiny Liquid Lipstick

article cover top
There’s no denying that I have a weakness for lippies. I love the wide array of colors, formulas and finishes they come in. Changing this one product in your makeup routine can instantly change your look and take you from day to night.

While I love the matte lips trend, it can be drying- especially during the winter months. I was searching for something a little different for the fall and winter this year, so when Buxom launched the new Va-Va Plump Shiny Liquid Lipsticks, I was excited to pick up a couple of colors at my local Sephora.

The product claims to provide bold, lasting color while plumping the lips. The 2 shades I purchased are Beg for Mauve and Getting Warmer. Here are my impressions…

PROS

Colors:  I love the range of colors these come in! There are muted shades for every day, Gorgeous warmer tones for fall, and some beautiful bright shades for a pop of color. The colors are super pigmented, especially the brighter shades. Beg for Mauve is a lovely, dusky pink/mauve shade and Getting Warmer is a rich nutmeg shade with a russet undertone. I feel like both colors work well for every day and are pigmented without being too loud. The color range is diverse, so I feel that everybody can find at least one color that appeals to them and works well with their skin tone.

Finish: These are somewhere between a regular lipstick, gloss and liquid lipstick. Confused? I will try to explain. These lippies have the color pay-off of a lipstick but with more staying power, the easy application of a liquid lipstick without being matte or drying, and some shine like a gloss without being sticky. Hopefully, that helps : ) Basically, the product goes on like a gloss and dries down to a satin lipstick finish.

Formula: I love that these are sulfate and paraben free! The product feels nice on the lips without being sticky or drying. It has a minty smell and the signature Buxom tingling sensation on the lips (but I would not say it’s as intense as the Buxom lip polishes).

Packaging: The curved applicator makes it easy to hug the lips during application and apply enough product with a single swipe. I like that the tube has a window so you can see the color inside. Other than that, the packaging is solid and the etched lip design is a nice detail.

CONS

Transfers: Product does transfer a bit, but that is to be expected since it isn’t a matte finish. As a result, you do need to re-apply during the day but I still feel like these have more staying power than a regular lipstick or gloss.

Plumping: The product has a tingling feeling and is hydrating so your lips look full, but I wouldn’t say it necessarily makes them bigger. The formula is supposed to contain natural collagen boosters, so maybe there is a long-term benefit with continued use.

CONCLUSION

All in all, I love this revolutionary new product by Buxom! These lippies apply silky-smooth without feeling sticky or drying. The minty, cooling sensation is nice for the winter months when lips tend to feel dry and chapped. The color selection is wonderful and the product wears comfortably through the day. I highly recommend picking up one (or a few 🙂 ) of these lippies. They run for $20 at Sephora and Ulta.
