No beauty product enhances your eyes as quickly and easily as mascara. A couple of quick swipes and your beautiful eyes instantly look defined. Of course, the first step is finding the mascara that is right for you. I have been using MAC’s waterproof extreme dimension mascara for years, and while I love how long-lasting and intense it is, I realized that it was a little hard on my lashes, no matter how gently I removed it at the end of the day. While I still love my MAC mascara, I really wanted to find something else for my everyday use. Hence, the search for a new mascara began.
Personally, I’m a fan of waterproof formulas because I find them to be more long lasting, especially in the summer heat. They also tend to hold the curl of your lashes better. That said, I’ve had some not-so-great experiences with formulas that don’t turn out to be as waterproof as they claim. I ended up picking up the Lancôme: Hypnôse Drama (WP formula) from Ulta based on someone’s recommendation. It retails for $27.50 and promises to provide intense color, instant volume and is enriched with Pro Vitamin B. After using the mascara for a few months, here are my thoughts…
Formula: Definitely waterproof! The consistency is a little drier than other mascaras I’ve tried, but I helps prevent smudging during application. My only disappointment is that this mascara does contain parabens in the ingredients list.
Color: Color is deep and intense so it defines your lashes and makes your eyes pop
Packaging: Sleek, minimal packaging with bold lettering.
Performance: Holds up really well during the day without smudging or flaking. Adds volume and dimension without making my lashes stick together. Easy enough to remove at the end of the day with a waterproof makeup remover.
Brush: The brush has a unique “S wave” shape, which I like because it makes it easier to follow the natural curve of your lashes for even product application. It also seems to help prevent clumping.
Overall, the Lancôme Hypnôse mascara performs well and definitely gives your lashes a boost. You can build it up, just don’t wait for it to completely dry between coats. Although it’s on the pricier side, it does last a while and I love the way it adds volume and dimension. For daily wear, I find that a single swipe is more than enough to give my lashes definition.
