Too Faced: Born this Way Foundation

Finding the right foundation can be quite a process. You have to find the right shade for your skin tone,  ingredients that work well with your skin type, and a formula that stays in place all day. As the name suggests though, foundation is the base of your makeup, so it’s important to find the right one. That way, you’re off to a good start and the rest of your look just falls in place. I love the Makeup Forever Ultra HD foundation and MAC’s Face & Body foundation, but time to time, I like to try out something new just to see what else is available. I have been hearing good things about the Estee Lauder: Double Wear and the Too Faced: Born this Way foundations so I decided to give them a try. The woman at the counter was nice enough to make me a sample of the Estee Lauder DW foundation, and I’m glad she did. As much as I wanted this foundation to work for me after all the rave reviews I’d heard, it didn’t suit my skin. The formula was too drying and it just felt tight on my face.

And so, I turned to the Too Faced: Born this Way foundation. The product states that it contains coconut water, alpine rose and hyaluronic acid to help provide skin with moisture, resilience and a smoother look. The formula is oil free, is supposed to provide medium to full coverage, and last for 12 hours. I picked it up at Ulta in the shade Light Beige. It’s also available at Sephora. I’ve been using it for a week now, and here is what I think so far…

PROS

Application: This foundation is easy to apply. It has a nice consistency, not too runny or too thick and it glides onto the skin. I like applying it with my Sigma F80 Kabuki brush and sometimes follow up with a damp beauty blender for a more natural look.

Finish: I love the natural, satin finish of this foundation. It blends in seamlessly with my skin, even without using a primer. The coverage is wonderful with a single, thin layer but it can definitely be built up without looking cakey. For the amount of coverage, it surprisingly doesn’t feel or look heavy on the skin.

Performance: I can’t speak to the claim of it holding up for 12 hours, because I don’t keep my foundation on for that long, but it does look nice on the skin even after 6-8 hours. It doesn’t budge, crack, or cling to dry patches and holds up well on rainy days too : )

Color Range: I’m really impressed by the range of shades this foundation is available in. It comes in more than 30 shades with 3 different undertones including neutral, rosy and golden so there’s a good chance of finding a color that matches your skin tone precisely. Light beige was a good match for me (For reference, I usually use shade C3 in MAC’s F&B foundation and Y335 in the Makeup Forever ultra HD foundation).

CONS

SPF: One thing that would have made this product even better for me would have been some SPF, so I could skip applying a sunscreen in the morning first.

Price: As a higher end product, this foundation is on the pricier side at $39. However, the price is similar to other foundations in its range, and a little product goes a long way.

CONCLUSION

Overall, I highly recommend the Too Faced: Born this Way foundation! It glides onto the skin, stays in place all day and doesn’t feel like you are wearing any foundation. It provides nice coverage without looking heavy and it performs well as the day goes on. It felt comfortable on my combination/dry skin and did not feel drying on my face. If you are in the market looking for a new foundation, you may want to consider this one! I hope you found this review helpful.

Take care,
